Empty Nest, Midlife Musings, and New Beginnings: How DanceBells Was Born

For years, my life revolved around the high-paced world of technology. As a software executive, relentless deadlines and high-stakes decisions defined my days. Though thrilling, it left little room for my passions. But one passion always lingered in the background: dance.

From the age of five, I was immersed in the rich tradition of Indian Classical Kathak dance. It wasn’t just an extracurricular activity—it became a cornerstone of my identity, a way to channel energy, creativity, and emotions. Dance was my first love, the medium I returned to time and again to manage stress and find balance amidst life’s chaos.

When the house eventually fell silent and the chatter of children was replaced by the quiet of an empty nest, I found myself standing at a crossroads. This phase came with a mix of emotions—freedom, nostalgia, and the looming question: What’s next for me?

Stepping away from the high-octane career world gave me a chance to reflect. In those quieter moments, I reconnected with dance—not as a performance or obligation, but as pure self-expression. It became a source of healing, a way to process emotions, and a canvas for creative self-expression. What started as a personal journey soon evolved into a vision for helping others.

It was incredibly reassuring to come across modern neuroscience research that confirmed what I had always known deep within me: Dance is transformative. The rhythmic and coordinated movements involved in dance don’t just work the body—they engage the brain in profound ways. Neuroscience shows that dance improves memory, focus, and creativity while fostering emotional resilience. Even more compelling, research reveals that dance can delay neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s by engaging the brain in multitasking and pattern recognition.

Science validated the intuitive understanding I had carried for years: dance is a powerful, joyful tool for holistic wellness.

These insights sparked the idea for DanceBells. I wanted to create more than a dance program; I envisioned a wellness journey tailored specifically for women. DanceBells blends movement, mindfulness, and connection in a way that transforms lives.
